Virgo Facts

Athena, also referred to as Athene, is a very important goddess of many things. She is goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.. She is known most specifically for her strategic skill in warfare and is often portrayed as companion of heroes and is the patron goddess of heroic endeavour. Athena was born from ZEUS after he experienced an enormous headache and she sprang fully grown and in armour from his forehead. She has no mother but one of the most commonly cited stories is that Zeus lay with Metis, the goddess of crafty thought and wisdom, and then swallowed her whole as he feared she will give birth to a child more powerful than him because of a prophecy – but she had already conceived. Athena was the Goddess of War, the female counterpart of ARES. She was the daughter of Zeus; no mother bore her. She sprang from Zeus’s head, full-grown and clothed in armor. She was Zeus’s favorite child. According to Homer’s account in the Iliad, Athena was a fierce and ruthless warrior. In the Odyssey, she was angry and unforgiving. In the course of the Trojan War, she struck Ajax with madness. Known for protecting civilized life, she was the Goddess of the City. According to some sources, Athena was praised for her compassion and generosity. Athena was a patron of the arts and crafts, especially when it came to spinning and weaving. In later poetry, Athena embodied wisdom and rational thought. Athena served as a guardian of Athens, where the Parthenon served as her temple. Zeus trusted her to wield the aegis and his thunderbolt. Her most important festival was the Panathenaea, which was celebrated annually at Athens. She is referred to in poetry as “gray-eyed.” The owl was her bird, and the olive tree was hers. She turned the weaver ARACHNE into a spider after the mortal woman insulted Athena and the Olympian gods. Athena reared Erichthonius, son of HEPHAESTUS. He was half man, half serpent. Athena put the infant in a chest and gave it to others to watch over, forbidding them to open it. When they did, she drove them mad as punishment. She is one of three virgin goddesses; the other two were HESTIA and ARTEMIS. Athena invented the flute, but she never played it. Hermes and Athena went to the aid of PERSEUS IN HIS QUEST TO KILL MEDUSA. Looking directly at MEDUSA would turn any man to stone, so Athena provided PERSEUS with her polished shield. Using it, he was able to see Medusa as if looking in a mirror. Again, Athena guided his hand as he cut off Medusa’s head with his sword. HERA and Athena fought against Paris in the Trojan War since he had awarded the Golden Apple to APHRODITE. The sacred image of Athena, a wood statue called the Palladium, protected the Trojans as long as they had it. ODYSSEUS and Diomedes executed a plan to steal the image, greatly encouraging the Greeks in their hopes to end the long-suffering war. Athena helped HERCULES when, as a part of his penance, he was required to drive away the Stymphalian birds. She got them moving, and Hercules shot them.

Athena is also depicted in different colors:White:Athena as healer, savior, protector, and eternal virgin. Yellow:Athena as creatrix, holy wisdom, intellect, craftsmanship and victory. Red:Athena as warrior, weapons master, and patron of heroes.

VIRGO SYMBOL

The symbol for Virgo is a letter “M” with a loop at its end. There are some discussions that this letter stands for “Maiden” but then Scorpio would have to be linked to it too. The loop in the symbol of Virgo does represent chastity, whether because it is seen as crossed legs of a woman or as a loop where no impurities can enter. In a completely different interpretation, we see that Virgo is represented through three similar obstacles or paths, the third completing the circle and taking a person back where they started. Just like a link between action and consequence through several steps, shown in the myth of Icarus, the symbol for Virgo represents our simple saying – what goes around, comes around.

VIRGO RULER

The sign of Virgo is ruled by planet Mercury that got its name by the Roman god of communication, eloquence, travelers, boundaries, trickery, luck and thieves. He was also the guide of souls to the underworld. Its Greek counterpart is Hermes, a messenger, quick and cunning, moving swiftly through the worlds of mortal and divine.

Virgo Ruler

The symbol for Mercury is consisted of a circle and a cross below it, same as Venus, only with a crescent at its top. Crescent denotes the mind, circle the spirit and cross the physical matter. This symbol shows the divine nature of the mind (Gemini) and its physical one (Virgo). The “horns” made by the crescent are also linked to the winged hat that Roman god Mercury used to wear. This god was also symbolized by a caduceus – a staff with two snakes wound about it.

Day:Wednesday

Polarity:Negative

Virgo dislikes:Rudeness, asking for help, taking center stage

Weaknesses:Shyness, worry, overly critical of self and others, all work and no play

What You Hate:Lazy or vulgar people, dive bars, spicy food, leaving home, toothpaste squeezed from the top of the tube

Bad Day:Preachy, self-destructive, overwhelmed, self-pitying, uptight, critical

Quality:Mutable

The zodiac signs are grouped into three “qualities” or “triplicities”: cardinal, mutable and fixed signs. Virgo is one of the four mutable signs. These signs end every season—and have learned the hard lessons taught by spring, summer, fall and winter. The mutable signs—Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces—know that all good things come to an end, and their role is to prepare everyone for the changing of seasons. Mutable signs are the adapters of the zodiac, a little bit older and wiser. More flexible and comfortable with change than other signs, they can “chameleon” themselves to fit into a variety of situations. Mutables are also the editors of the zodiac—the ones who complete the package with a winning touch. A plan can be sparked by a cardinal sign, built by a fixed sign, then perfected with the critical eye of a mutable sign.

GRACEFUL, ORGANIZED, KIND

Virgo likes:Animals, healthy food, books, nature, cleanliness

Strengths:Loyal, analytical, kind, hardworking, practical

Favorite Things:Laptops, magazines, long showers with aromatherapy soaps, outdoor concerts, childhood friends, Trivial Pursuit

Good Day:Dedicated, resourceful, helpful, hardworking, witty, practical

Flower:Sunflower & marigold

Lucky Gem:Peridot

Element:Earth

Virgo is one of the three zodiac signs ruled under the earth element. The other two earth signs are Taurus and Capricorn. Since Virgo is the second earth sign in the zodiac, it picks up where Taurus left off and quickly arranges schedules and an impeccable building plan to be constructed around Taurus’ solid foundation. During a Virgo planetary cycle, we’ll be quick to pinpoint the divine in the details, crafting an exact blueprint to the nearest thousandth of an inch so that we can accomplish our goals. Virgo energy motivates us to try a new workout routine or revamp the systems and schedules we use to manage our lives. It can also make people anxious (even neurotic) about the future. During Virgo transits, we can get caught up in “What ifs?”

Ruling Planet:Mercury — the planet of communication

Virgo, like Gemini, is ruled by the fleet-footed messenger planet Mercury. In mythology, Mercury carried out requests and tasks at the command of other gods, even adopting multiple personas in order to fulfill his missions. This fits perfectly with Virgo’s ability to multitask and check off their never-ending to-do lists with precision.

Body Part:Stomach, waist, digestive system

How to Spot Them:Baby faces, roving eyes that are sizing up or analyzing a situation

Ruling House:Sixth

Lucky Numbers:5, 14, 15, 23, 32

Spirit Color:Silver, Grey, Beige, Pale-Yellow

Where You’ll Find Them:Babysitting for the neighbor’s kids, running errands on their endlessly long to-do lists, building something with their own two hands, cleaning something to spotless condition

Virgo People:What They’re Like. From work ethic to wardrobe, impeccable Virgos are the epitome of #flawless. They can pull off the “I Woke Up Like This” look—even if they’d rather spend a couple of hours primping and putting themselves together in the mirror. Because Virgos can get stressed from micromanaging their lives (and other people’s!), downtime is crucial for them. They cherish their solitude and can spend indulgent hours reading, writing, planning, decluttering or dreaming up creative projects. But they’ll always spring into action for a friend in need. Because observant Virgos can quickly spot the flaws in everything, they can come across as critical or judgmental. They’re only trying to help! But when they lapse into preachy mode, they may need a reminder that they don’t have to “fix” the world. As hard as Virgos may be on loved ones, they’re even harder on themselves. This giving sign needs to learn the art of receiving—a lifelong struggle for many.

VIRGO HISTORY

THE HISTORY OF VIRGO. Virgo is a sign separate from the constellation of Virgo and most of the stars from this constellation are currently in the sign of Libra. In the zodiac, the sign of Virgo is set between Leo and Libra, taking the sixth 30 degrees of the zodiacal circle. Virgo is a mutable sign, announcing the autumn to come. This makes it quite depressing in its changeable nature, for it represents the change between the sunny summer, and the presumably rainy autumn when everything dies down. To add to it, Virgo is a predecessor of Libra, the sign in which the Sun sets. This constellation was found in Babylonian astronomy, dating back from approximately 1000 – 700 BC. It was known as “The Furrow”, representing goddess Shala’s ear of grain and an important star in this constellation, Spica, is Latin for “ear of grain”. This gives the image of hard work that gives results. Virgo is often depicted as a woman holding wheat in her hand.

THE MYTH OF VIRGO.

The constellation of Virgo was often linked to Greek and Roman goddesses of Agriculture, Demetres and Ceres. Still, the primal connection of ancient Greeks connected this constellation to Astraea, the celestial virgin, who was the last immortal to live with humans during the Golden Age, one of the five deteriorating ages of man. She abandoned the human race and left the Earth to flee from the wickedness of humanity. The more intense myth linked with this constellation is the one of Erigone, daughter of Icarus. Icarus got killed by shepherds because they got drunk on his wine and thought he tried to poison them. As he was dying, he remembered how Dionysus taught him to care about the vine, and that one day a goat ate everything he has planted and grown with love and devotion. Angry, Icarus killed the goat, skinned it and invited other people to dance around it. At the moment of death, he realized that by killing the goat, he actually hurt himself. His daughter Erigone with her dog Maera, found her father’s body under a tree and hanged herself over him. The dog stayed there sad for his owner, until he was dead too. But the story doesn’t end here. Since Dionysus was so angry because of this unjust act, he punished Athens by making all of the city’s maidens commit suicide in the same way, until the shepherds who killed Icarus were finally found and punished.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE VIRGO MYTH AND THE VIRGO ZODIAC SIGN.

The most important link between these two myths is in the stupidity and ignorance of the human race. All of the actors in both myths have finished in the sky, one way or the other, because of the lack of gratitude and people of low moral and intellectual traits. There is an image of an educated person whose knowledge is not valued. There is a tragedy in the myth of Virgo, one that can be moved through generations of women, until the source of the problem is solved. We often assume that Virgo is a sign of lonely women who sacrifice for a higher cause, and this is in close correlation to these stories. There is not love story in the sign of Virgo, except the one that includes family and a woman’s love for her father. This constellation and the sign it was assigned to it, point to a relationship of a girl with her father that made her commit suicide, and this can often be a social or an emotional suicide, instead of a physical one. This tragic story carries an important lesson within, hidden in the last thought Icarus had. He understood that he signed his own fate by hurting another being, and even though a sacrifice of his life was made, there is a spiritual, enlightening moment in its end – a moment in which true value of any life is shown.

Virgo Zodiac Sign

Virgo: The Virgin

Ruled by the nurturing, orderly and rule-abiding Virgin, Virgo energy focuses on control, purification and organization. Imagine a bookshelf that needs sorting, and you’ll find Virgo categorizing by color, book title, and author, usually just for fun. Virgo helps us to maintain a sense of efficiency and conduct in our physical realities, and can be very supportive as it’s not focused on shining in the limelight. Perfectionism can be an issue. Under a Virgo planetary transit, we may find ourselves caught in waves of “analysis paralysis,” wanting to make a million decisions down to the last detail but unable to make a move. The essence of Virgo energy is dedicated, resourceful, helpful, hardworking, health-conscious, analytical, clever, witty, and practical. In its negative state, Virgo energy can be preachy, self-destructive, anxious, overwhelmed, self-pitying, uptight, and critical. Virgo pickiness and sky-high standards have their uses, but can wreak havoc on relationships with ourselves and others. Since Virgo rules the sixth house of health and fitness, wellness and all things “green” (from kale smoothies to cleaning up the planet) fall under its domain.

Practical Virgos are incredibly adept at big picture thinking, and planning out their life, their vacations, and what they're going to do today isn't a drag it makes them feel in control and secure. Virgo has a rich inner life, and can sometimes seem shy at first meeting. A Virgo won't spill secrets right away, and it's important to earn a Virgo's trust. But once you do, that Virgin will be a friend for life. And if you think that you're dating a shy Virgo, trust that those walls will fall down in the bedroom. One of the most passionate signs, Virgos specialize at connecting to their physicality, and this earth sign loves and celebrates physical connection with their partner. Virgos expect perfection from themselves, and they may project those high standards on the other people in their life. They'll happily sign up for an adult-education course, and they consider an afternoon in bed with a book pretty much ideal. A Virgo prefers an evening with good friends to a huge party, and values downtime just as much as socializing. This sign doesn't need to fill their calendar to be content. Virgos are always paying attention to the smallest details and their deep sense of humanity makes them one of the most careful signs of the zodiac. Their methodical approach to life ensures that nothing is left to chance, and although they are often tender, their heart might be closed for the outer world. This is a sign often misunderstood, not because they lack the ability to express, but because they won’t accept their feelings as valid, true, or even relevant when opposed to reason. The symbolism behind the name speaks well of their nature, born with a feeling they are experiencing everything for the first time. Virgo is an Earth sign, fitting perfectly between Taurus and Capricorn. This will lead to a strong character, but one that prefers conservative, well-organized things and a lot of practicality in their everyday life. These individuals have an organized life, and even when they let go to chaos, their goals and dreams still have strictly defined borders in their mind. Constantly worried that they missed a detail that will be impossible to fix, they can get stuck in details, becoming overly critical and concerned about matters that nobody else seems to care much about. Since Mercury is the ruling planet of this sign, its representatives have a well-developed sense of speech and writing, as well as all other forms of communication. Many Virgos may choose to pursue a career as writers, journalists, and typists, but their need to serve others makes them feel good as caregivers, on a clear mission to help. Virgo – the Disappointed Goddess Seeking goodness in humankind is the story of Virgo, and disappointment seems to be inevitable from their point of view. The first time they came from their cloud and jumped onto planet Earth, it felt like their mission is to use their existence for good, discovering ways of justice and purity in other people. Once they fail to find it too many times, Virgos will pull away, get lost, turn to substance abuse, or simply separate from other people to sit on the bench, criticize and judge.

Virgo's Greatest Gifts

Graceful, harmonious, and obsessed with making things the very best they can be, Virgo is notorious for being type A but that's only because this sign knows that everything good can be made great, and that everything great can be perfect. Smart and intensely curious, Virgos are passionate about uncovering the why which is why a Virgo's friends consider him or her their own personal encyclopedia. Known for their grace, Virgos can always talk their way out of sticky situations, and everyone is charmed by their wit and ability to put others at ease.

VIRGO FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

Friends – Virgos are excellent advisors, always knowing how to solve a problem. This can make them helpful and extremely useful to have around, but also brings out their need to search the problem in everything and everyone around them. They will care for people they build a solid relationship with, treasuring them for years and nurturing them in every possible way. An intimate friendship with a Virgo is always earned by good deeds. Family – People born with their Sun in Virgo are very dedicated to their family and attentive to elderly and sick people. They understand tradition and the importance of responsibility, proud of their upbringing and everything that made their mind be as dominant as it is.

Virgo's Greatest Challenges

Virgo's desire to have everything be perfect can manifest in frustration when things don't live up to those (sometimes unrealistic) expectations. Besides occasionally leading to fights with friends and partners, Virgo's focus on perfection can cause everything even uploading an Instagram photo to take forever. Learning to go with the flow and accept “good enough” is a constant struggle.

VIRGO CAREER AND MONEY

Virgos are practical, analytical and hard-working, always knowing exactly where to look for the core of any problem. Their methodology makes them shine at jobs that require good organization, dealing with paperwork, problem solving and working with their minds and their hands. When they focus, perfection is to be expected from their work, for no other sign has such an eye for details as Virgo. In love with books and artistic expression, they make good critics, while their need to help humankind serves them best if they decide to become doctors, nurses or psychologists. Virgo stands for all practical and used things, and it is in the nature of these individuals to save money and always put something on the side. They will see irrational spending as a bad habit or a matter of being spoiled, and always hold on to practical solutions that don’t cost much. Unfortunately, this approach can sometimes make them a bit cheap and too concerned about everything they might lack tomorrow. They need to learn to indulge in some hedonism too.

Virgo's Secret Weapon

Virgo is incredibly hard working. When this sign wants something, they'll work for it. They're also good at making the most of things friends look to them to help them with a DIY project or redecorate their home. Virgins push the people around them to be their best if you want a training buddy for a marathon, you know who to call. Bottom line: Virgos work hard, and that work ethic inspires everyone in their life.

VIRGO LOVE AND SEX

The sign of Virgo leads Venus to its tragic fall and speaks of one’s inability to feel worthy, beautiful, or lovable. Compatibility of Virgo with other zodiac signs is mostly based on the ability of their partner to give them all the love they need to start feeling safe and open up enough to show their soft, vulnerable heart. They will rarely have direct statements of love, but intimacy brings out all of the beauty of their emotional self-expression. A Virgo will prefer a stable relationship than having fun, casual lovers, except if they become one, using their charm and superficial communication to win hearts without ever investing their own. Methodical and intellectually dominant, each Virgo seems to have an equation in their mind that their partner has to follow. They will rarely have many sexual experiences with different people, for they need to feel important to someone and find real physical pleasure in order to give their whole self to someone. The sign of Virgo is easily attached to the symbolism of a virgin, but the truth is their quality is mutable, and their need for change often overcomes their self-imposed restrictions and moral boundaries when it comes to sex. Trust needs to be built with Virgo, slowly, steadily and patiently, and each partner they have in life has a chance to be nurtured and cared for, but only if they give enough to deserve special treatment of Virgo. HOW TO ATTRACT THE VIRGO WOMAN

A Virgo personality is a mix of intelligence, attention to detail, common sense, and commitment, and a woman born with her in this sign is very smart, modest, and capable. Trying to seduce this woman can seem intimidating at first, for she is likely to put on a facade of indifference. However, she is not cold but practical, realistic and cautious when it comes to starting new relationships. She will never simply give herself to someone without assessing their character and emotions shared with her from the beginning. She doesn’t, under no circumstances, fall under a category of spoiled, materialistic women. As all Earth signs she will enjoy the material world and see any gift she gets as a blessing, but still truly enjoy things only when they are extremely practical and easy to use, digest, or when in need of fixing. Attracted to intelligent but distant personalities, a Virgo woman has a strong capacity to love, but chooses to wait for sharing emotions until she is ready. Private and defensive, this is someone who needs her defense mechanisms respected but still broken by the right partner.

HOW TO ATTRACT THE VIRGO MAN

To seduce a Virgo man, one must respect his need for cleanliness and order. In most cases he enters romance slowly, carefully, and likes to take his time getting to know a person before starting anything serious. When he receives information on what to expect, his partner has to be sure to deliver nothing less. A Virgo man might put up a cool front, but don't let him fool you. He has deep and sensual needs, and only if his partner is patient enough, able to withstand his tendency to overanalyze everything, he will eventually warm up. It takes obvious and hard work to sweep a Virgo man off his feet. He needs a partner to inspire, remind him of his own talents, and will often find such a person in platonic and completely irrational spheres. In search for someone honest, patient and tidy, he is always ready to settle down with the right person for a very long time.
